Designing A Bathroom That Your Child Will Love

A child’s bathroom presents its own set of decorating challenges. Because young children use the bathroom so often (many times accompanied by a parent), these bathrooms are often the most used rooms in a house. However, the bulk of parents have not the faintest idea where to start in decorating a bathroom for their child. If you’re a parent, you know just how outspoken kids can be when they don’t like something; so parents usually know right away when their décor choices are unwanted. This article will give you a few tips for decorating a child’s bathroom.

Knowing The Gender Behind The Decorations

Decorating a bathroom begins with the gender of the child (or children) who will use the bathroom. If your child is a boy, you can decorate the bathroom so that specific interests are appealed to, such as cars, bugs, cowboys, and so on. A bathroom used by a young girl can be decorated to appeal to other passions that a boy may not be interested in such as dolls or princesses. If both a girl and a boy are going to use the same bathroom, it's important to keep a neutral theme in the bathroom while catering to their interests simultaneously. No matter what your theme, there are plenty of accessories and decorations to choose from.

Accessories and Decorations to Use

There are a large number of different accessories which you can use to decorate a child’s bathroom. For example, if your child enjoys cars, you can buy a bathmat and curtain set that have cars on them. Or, if your children are fans of Disney in your house, they can have bathroom rugs that have pictures of their favorite cartoon characters.

Toothbrush tumblers are another consideration, and come in literally hundreds of styles. For example, you could buy a dinosaur-shaped tumbler, or one of Cinderella. Soap dispensers come in many styles too and can also be used to enliven children’s bathrooms with their favorite characters, animals and more.

Doorknobs, wastebaskets, soap dishes and tissue dispensers can be found which will cater to the interests of any child.

For example, each knob on all bathroom wall cabinets or drawers in your child’s bathroom to ones which will appeal to them.

You can choose from soccer balls, jungle animals, clown faces, or the like. It all depends on children's preferences. Similar interests can be reflected in other decorations.

A Bathroom That Grows With Your Child

As your child gets older, of course the bathroom is not going to be appropriate if it's decorated in a Mickey Mouse theme, for example. As your child's interests change, the bathroom theme must also change. Shower curtains, bathmats, soap dispensers and tumblers can all be replaced to reflect these changes.

You should avoid the use of decorations which will be hard to switch out as your child ages. A wallpaper pattern of giraffes may be very appealing to a four year old – but less so when they are twelve. This will leave you with wallpaper you’ll have to replace when your child outgrows their obsession with giraffes.

However you choose to decorate your kids bathroom is limited only by your own imagination – there are so many options open to you that the hardest part will be choosing which to go with. If you know your child and what he or she likes, you'll be able to decorate the bathroom appropriately in the first place and then can change the theme as he or she gets older. With a little planning and imagination, you can create the perfect bathroom for your child.
